John Wageman

Hazard Mitigation Program Supervisor

 

John WagemanJohn Wageman has served with the Division in recovery, mitigation, planning and homeland security functions since 2004. He was promoted to supervisor of the Hazard Mitigation program in February 2011.

 

Mr. Wageman and his team are responsible for implementing the Hazard Mitigation Assistance programs for the State. The HMA programs implement mitigation projects that reduce or eliminate the adverse effects of hazards in Iowa. Projects include property acquisitions to remove vulnerable homes from the floodplain, tornado safe rooms to provide protection during high wind events, and projects that provide protections to critical infrastructure to reduce direct damages and loss of function to utility systems.

 

In 2004, Mr. Wageman joined the Division as the mitigation grants coordinating officer. Prior to retiring from the Iowa Army National Guard, he served as education services officer, officer in charge of the Regional Training Institute, and state transportation officer among other positions.

 

Mr. Wageman holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa. He is a Certified Public Manager and Certified Grants Manager. Mr. Wageman is also on several national committees including the HMA Stakeholders Work Group, National Preparedness Task Force, and Mitigation Planning Work Group.
